The Impartial Reporter understands there is uncertainty about Michelle Gildernew's future as MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone. 

Sources suggest Sinn Féin is considering her for the Midlands/North West European Parliament constituency. 

An announcement is due this morning.

Ms Gildernew was first elected as an MLA to the Northern Ireland Assembly in 1998. 

She was elected as an MP for Fermanagh South Tyrone in 2001, retaining the seat in the 2005 and 2010 general elections. She lost her Westminster seat in 2015 by 530 votes to Ulster Unionist Tom Elliott

She later won her seat back in 2017 and retained it in the 2019 general election.

The 2024 European Parliament election is due to take place in June 2024.

Currently, the Midlands/North West European Parliament constituency is served by MEPs Chris MacManus (Sinn Féin), Maria Walsh(Fine Gael),  Colm Markey (Fine Gael) and Luke Flanagan (Independent.)
