The real winners of the May 6 Westminster elections will be the hard working, God-fearing people of Fermanagh and South Tyrone, according to the second independent candidate to contest the seat, John Stevenson.

Mr. Stevenson, from Enniskillen, handed in his nomination papers to the Electoral Office in Omagh on Thursday last He says he is not backed by any party or by anyone with vested interests.

"Those with vested interests have never and will never succeed. We are one people and we all have one future. It is a future equally shared. I am absolutely confident that our people will make the right decision on May 6," he explains.

"The electorate are not getting a choice. The two main parties are not standing and it gives me, a rival candidate a chance to take the seat," he said, vowing to stand at every future Westminster and Assembly election.

He said the decent people of Fermanagh and South Tyrone did an honest day's living before coming home to eat with their families and have some quality time and enjoy themselves and not have "stupid louts" wrecking their cars.

He says he will be hitting the campaign trail from to-day, knocking on doors.

"I am offering everyone a different political perspective. I am saying fair play to the DUP and Sinn Fein for bringing us out of the past so we can enjoy this most beautiful part of Ireland," he added.

He says no to factory closures in Fermanagh and South Tyrone, and says Quinn Insurance will be secured.

He also says there will be even and fair distribution of all public servants pay to negate the budget deficit.

Asked about the future shape of Parliament, Mr. Stevenson predicts there will be a joint Labour and Liberal Democrat government.

Mr. Stevenson who was born in Derry in 1948, into a Presbyterian family, whose ancestors were driven out of Scotland during the 1760 clearances.

He was educated at Campbell College, Belfast, and in 1972, became a member of the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester. He was made a member of the Royal Humane Society in 1975.

Mr. Stevenson began a welding business in Fermanagh in 1981, and in 2003, established Titanic Rebuilt 2012 Ltd., engaged in the manufacture of builders' carpentry and metalwork.
