ROAD users of the link corridor between Omagh and Enniskillen will now benefit from "safer journeys and reduced travel times" following the official opening of the 7.3 million A32 Shannaragh Road scheme today.
Opened by Department of Regional Development (DRD) Minister Danny Kennedy, the road scheme recognises the increased strategic importance of the A32 following the opening of the South West Acute Hospital (SWAH) last June.
The works included replacing the Shannaragh Bridge over the Owenreagh River and the realignment of some local roads to improve access to and from the A32.
The scheme comprises of 2.2km of new single carriageway extending from the A32 Clanabogan Road / B4 Drumlish Road Junction to the A32 Clanabogan Road / Shannaragh Road Junction just north of Dromore.
"The 7.3million investment in the A32 Shannaragh Road Scheme is the largest project to be undertaken under in the Omagh to Enniskillen A32 improvement strategy," said Mr Kennedy, "The scheme delivers benefits for the local community and all road users who use this vital link corridor between Omagh and Enniskillen.
"The new Shannaragh Bridge along with improved road safety features make journey safer and reduces travel times."
The contract for construction of the new section of road was awarded last year to Whitemountain Quarries Limited and Coffey Construction Limited.
