Dean Corrigan is hoping to lead the Fermanagh’s Junior Super Cup NI team to success when the tournament kicks off next week.
The 14 year old Ballinamallard centre back was appointed Captain, but he has taken the appointment in his stride and reckons he is ready to take on the responsibility of leading his side out on the big stage.
“It was great to be appointed Captain,” he admitted. “I do it for Ballinamallard as well so I don’t feel like it has put any extra pressure on me at all. I’ve no nerves. I’m fine. I was there last year so I know what it is going to be like. I don’t mind playing in front of big crowd and I think it makes me play better.”
The Junior team will start their campaign on Monday with a game against California based Strikers FC who are regular visitors to the tournament. Dundalk will be next up for Fermanagh before they face English League One side Swindon Town. The three teams present a tough challenge but Dean is confident they can pick up points and admits he is happy with the fixtures.
“We got a good enough draw I think,” he said. “It could have been a lot worse. Dundalk is probably our best chance. I don’t know a lot about Strikers but I’m sure they will be a good enough team. We haven’t really talked about the tactics for the individual games yet but I would think we would be more defensive to start off with against the bigger teams. It’s hard to know how we will do because we don’t really know what the teams are like but I’m looking forward to the Dundalk game because there is a good chance for us to get something out of it.”
