St. Pat's, Donagh 0-11 Lisnaskea Emmets 1-11

Lisnaskea defeated close rivals St. Pat's in another local derby in Division 2B of the Club Players’ Competition with a single goal separating the sides at the Louis Leonard Memorial Park in Donagh.

Hayden Lynch’s goal in the first half proved the difference after a close second half between the sides.

John Reihill and Johnny Feeley have once again taken the reigns for the Emmets club for another season with Reihill pleased to make a winning start in his third season in charge.

“It was a close game. Donagh started strongly and we were struggling with our shape and their running game. We got to grips after that and the turning point of the first half was the goal.”

The home side made a bright start to the game and enjoyed more of the possession and opening attacks in the first few moments of the contest.

They landed two quick points with Thomas and Shay Cadden getting them off the mark.

Lisnaskea eventually played their way into the game and strung together some nice passing moves with Lynch pointing from an angle.

Sean Keenan added his name to the scoresheet with a well-taken left-footed strike from range.

Ethan McCaffrey also tagged on scores for the visiting side as he was on target with a couple of free kicks.

Johnny O’Reilly, Thomas Cadden and Oisin Boyle split the posts for Donagh before Lynch struck with the game’s only goal.

He was played the ball while running towards goal before taking on two opposing defenders and rounding them to then apply a cool finish to push the Emmets further in front.

Lisnaskea took in a five-point lead at halftime with the score sitting at 1-07 to 0-05.

The two sides will also meet later on in the season after Donagh suffered relegation to Division Two while a win over Newtownbutler in the Intermediate Championship relegation play-off also means they’ll be in with a chance to play neighbours Lisnaskea after Reihill’s side made an emphatic return to Intermediate level, with a with an impressive victory over Aghadrumsee, in last year’s Junior Championship final.

It was a very close second half between the sides on Saturday as St. Pat's fought their way back into it with points coming from Boyle, Darragh Foster, Eimhin Curran and Shay Cadden while Lisnaskea just held on to their lead while also wasting a handful of chances.

Points from Paul Mohan and Damien Óg Kelly saw the visitors hold on to their lead and secure an opening win.
