Local breeders and exhibitors had a successful week at Balmoral Show, kickstarting the show season with some good results from the judging rings.
In the cattle sections, Shane and Paul McDonald lifted the Simmental breed Championship while Fintan Keown from Belleek took the junior breed reserve championship in the Aberdeen Angus section.
Harold Crawford of Fintona won the junior reserve award in the Charolais breed section while Alan Irwin, Clogher won awards in the Dairy Shorthorn section.
In the Suffolk sheep section, Gary Beacom had success, lifting the Suffolk championship, a major title at Balmoral while there were some good placings for other exhibitors in the sheep classes.
Results; Aberdeen Angus Fintan Keown of Belleek took the Aberdeen Angus Junior Breed Reserve Champion for his second placed bull.

Simmental In the Simmental breed classes, Shane and Paul McDonald of Tempo won the breed championship as well as the junior breed championship. They collected several cups including the Bobbie Dickson Trophy for the best Simmental, a pair of crystal glasses for the best British Simmental, a cow bell for the best female, the NFU Trophy for the best Simmental female and the Bobbie Gamble Trophy for the best heifer.

Sheep Suffolk Gary Beacom of Fivemiletown had a successful Balmoral Show, winning the Northern Ireland Suffolk Breeders' Cup for the best sheep bred and exhibited by a member, and also won the Champon Suffolk Sheep award presented by the Northern Bank. He also won a number of special prizes as well as the following classes; Ewe - 2, Gary Beacom, Fivemiletown.
