COUNTRY star Nathan Carter knows only too well the impact that cancer has on people and their families which is why he wants to do something to help.
The big hearted star, who has made Fermanagh his home, will host a black tie event at the Lough Erne Resort on August 30 for Cancer Connect Northern Ireland.
The event includes a five course meal in what the charity’s director Phil McGrenaghan says will be a night of “glitz and glamour”, and all for a good cause.
“We are looking forward to the event. Nathan is one of the charity’s ambassadors and it was him actually who came up with the idea. One of the reasons we are doing it is because we are raising money for a project to set up a number of apartments within walking distance of the city hospital in Belfast for patients and their families so they don’t have to travel to and from Fermanagh for treatment.” Mr. Carter, whose teenage cousin is recovering from cancer, says he is “delighted” to be taking part in the Bank Holiday Weekend event.
“We’ve held coffee mornings, meet and greets, but I have never hosted a dinner dance before. I don’t really do them, this is the only one I am doing. It will be a classy evening and tickets (priced at £100 each) are going quickly. I know a lot of businesses in Fermanagh have bought tables.
“There will be an amazing dinner and music in a fantastic location. I am hoping to raise a lot of money and know that Fermanagh people are very charitable.
“I don’t think there is anybody who hasn’t been hit by cancer. I had a young cousin who at only 15 was diagnosed with cancer and is on the mend now. I know travelling to Belfast is not the easiest thing to do or having to pay for accommodation once you get there. That’s why being able to set up apartments would mean they wouldn’t have any expenses. I hope people get behind us on this, but I know that whatever happens it will be a night to remember,” he said.
