Joan Trimble bursaries awarded to local young people to support their talent in music, performing arts and Irish culture
Grants have been awarded to seven local young people by the Joan Trimble Bursary Awards, supporting the students towards the costs of summer schools and lessons.
Established by her family and administered by the Fermanagh Trust, the Joan Trimble Bursary Awards were set up in memory of the Enniskillen born musician and composer. The Awards recognise Joan’s lifelong commitment to County Fermanagh and their purpose is to encourage the involvement of young people in creativity, the performing arts and Irish culture.
Rebecca Brady and Eibhlinn Fee will use their award to attend singing and dance classes at the Teenage State International Summer School in Dublin. Rebecca is a member of local music theatre company Enniskillen Light Operatic and Eibhlin is currently working towards her Grade 5 in musical theatre.
Kerry McCabe has been learning traditional music for the last 8 years. She will be attending the Meitheal Traditional Music Summer School in Limerick. Aimed at advanced music students and delivered by elite musicians, the week includes a range of classes and workshops. The school will be a wonderful opportunity for Kerry to develop her skills in playing the fiddle, whistle and concertina.
Currently involved in the Grand Opera House Youth Project, Adam Dilworth will use his grant for professional singing lessons. Opera singer Andrew Irwin has received support towards vocal technique lessons in London.
Finally double bass player Harry Rees and cornet player Rachael Fyffe, who are members of the Education Authority Western Senior Youth Orchestra, will be taking a trip to Belgium and France this summer. Along with the orchestra they will be performing at a range of venues and developing their talents.
Joanna McVey, daughter of the late Joan Trimble commented “It is wonderful to see that there are so many opportunities available in terms of summer schools and lessons and we are delighted to support these talented young people who are so deserving of the experiences. We very much wish that they will gain valuable skills as they progress in their fields. The Joan Trimble Bursary Awards are pleased to be able to encourage wider access to the arts in this way.” For more information on the awards and how to apply visit www.fermanaghtrust.org. The next closing date for applications is 1st May 2019.
