An array of musical talent was evident in the Classical Music section of this year's Fermanagh Feis, which once again took place in St. Fanchea’s College. The section was due to run from Monday, March 9 till Friday, March 13 but, unfortunately, with a heavy heart, the organisers took the decision on the morning of Thursday, March 12 to cancel the rest of the Feis due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
The adjudicator for this year's Classical Music section was Gillian McCutcheon, a talented musician and performer who is in much demand as a teacher, examiner and adjudicator. She has adjudicated at festivals throughout Ireland and the UK and came straight from adjudicating at the NI Young Musician of the Year to the Classical Music section of the Feis. She called the Feis, the 'friendly festival'. While the standard of musical performance was consistently high with some exceptional performances from young vocalists and musicians, she was particularly impressed by the support the competitors gave to one another and the warmth of the audience towards every young performer.
The Section Secretary, Ann Allen, would like to thank the Acting Principals and Caretaker of St. Fanchea’s for the use of their premises and their efforts in ensuring that the event ran smoothly. "The accompanists, David Robertson and Jonathan Beatty’s professionalism and patience coaxed fine performances from nervous competitors – they too deserve our thanks. Finally, a big thank you to the many parents, teachers and private tutors who support and encourage the competitors to participate," said Ann.
