A much loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs Patricia Foy (nee Vogan) wife of the late Harry Foy of Main Street, Tempo passed away peacefully on April 28, 2020, in the South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen.
Born on August 10, 1927, the youngest of eight children to farmers John and Margaret Vogan of Cootehill, Co Cavan. After her mother Margaret passed away when Patricia was just 12 years old, she went to live with her Aunt Eliza in Belfast where she attended Fane Street School and on leaving school she became a comptometer operator, working in the Kings Hall in Belfast for a number of years.
During one of her visits to her family still in Cavan and her love of dancing, she met her future husband Harry Foy at a dance in the local church hall and in July 1950 they married in Kilmount Presbyterian Church, Co Cavan. They started married life at Cullies, Co Cavan where daughters Avril and Shirley were born and in 1954 they moved to Tempo where Harry had purchased the local garage and set up home on Main Street, where the remainder of their family, Alan, Linda and Susan were born.
Patricia’s long life brought its share of sadness when, in 2006, her daughter Shirley passed away at the age of 53.
Patricia was devoted to her family, she was a great homemaker and along with looking after her own family, she child minded, hence her door was always open and she liked nothing better than having family and friends visiting.
She took great interest in all her grandchildren, and would have remembered all their birthdays, what universities they were attending and what they were studying. Then laterally she delighted in the arrival of her great grandchildren and took great interest in how they were all progressing. Patricia loved her style and enjoyed nothing more than getting dressed up for family gatherings, and could always be found at the centre of many family occasions especially weddings and at Christmas time when the whole extended family could be together. She also loved travelling, having visited her sisters in America a number of times and in later years going on trips with her children to visit old friends and her beloved grandchildren. Patricia enjoyed attending many local social groups both in Tempo and Fivemiletown over the years and treasured the friendships she made there. Patricia was an active member of Tempo Parish Church, having completed over 60 years membership of the Mother’s Union, something very special to her.
Patricia was predeceased by her husband Harry, daughter Shirley, sisters Irene, Dora, Laura and Meta and brothers Samuel, William and Eric. She is survived by children Avril (Willie), Alan (Betty), Linda (Roy), Susan (Derek) son-in-law David, 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Following a short service at the funeral home of S R Elliott, Enniskillen, with only close family in attendance, Patricia was laid to rest in Tempo Parish Church graveyard, the graveside service conducted by Rev Canon Maurice Armstrong.
