There was shock and sadness in the village of Ballinamallard at the sudden death of Miss Doris McFarland on April 20, 2020.
Doris was aged 59 and lived in Ballinamallard all her life. She was the only child to Andrew and Kathleen McFarland and after the death of her parents she moved to Barragh Gardens, in the village and lived there ever since. She was well known in the village and over the last number of years she helped out in the Oxfam shop in Enniskillen.
When Doris left school she worked as a waitress in the Manor House Hotel in Killadeas and then in the Steakhouse restaurant in Ballinamallard when it was owned by Rodger and Cyril until their retirement.
When they moved back to England, Doris went to visit them regularly and remained close friends. She then worked as a cleaner in the local school and also did home help.
When she gave up work, Doris had a passion and love for music and was always heard on Hugo Duncan and Downtown Radio putting on requests for friends. On sunny days she would be sitting out drinking a coffee and listening to music.
Doris had a passion for bands and was a great follower and supporter of Ballinamallard Accordion Band and followed them each year in particular to the Annual 12th Demonstration held in Rossnowlagh. She loved to socialise in the local hotels, bars etc anywhere there was music.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by George McFarland of Kesh and burial took place in Craghan Cemetery, where she was laid to rest with her parents.
Archdeacon Brian Harper carried out the service at the graveside. Doris is survived by cousins, friends and good friend Colin.
