Swapping the comfort of his own bed for a portaledge overhanging a cliff on the Wild Atlantic Way, Fermanagh man Paul Kellagher braved the elements to raise money for Action for Children, a charity who helps young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

For the #BoycottyourBed, Action for Children were asking people to join forces with family, friends or colleagues to raise money and spend the night in the most unusual place in their home, whether that be roughing it in the garden, pitching a tent under a table, or bunking down in the bathroom. However, Paul, who works as the Children's Services Manager for Action for Children in Enniskillen but is also a professionally trained mountaineering instructor, took the challenge to another level.

Just days after Storm Ellen wreaked havoc across the island of Ireland, Paul set up camp in a portaledge suspended over a cliff in the Malin Beg area of Donegal on Friday night (August 21) for #BoycottyourBed.

Speaking to The Impartial Reporter following his challenging charity sleep out, Paul said: "I slept well on the night waking up about 7am with time to reflect on the work we do before breakfast."

"There was still a fair bit of wind and sea swell so I managed to find a spot sheltered behind an off shore rocky island. I got up to the top of the cliff and was packing up just as the rain arrived," he added.

With his fundraiser, Paul exceeded his target and has so far raised £1,741 for Action for Children, with his Just Giving page still open for a few more days.

Nationally, Action for Children has raised over a quarter of a million pounds from the event.

Paul explained that locally in Fermanagh and Omagh, Action for Children have services that work with young people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless and money raised from #BoycottyourBed will be used to help support this work.
