A LARGE entry of quality sheep resulted in a terrific trade at the first special sale of breeding stock hosted by Clogher Mart on Tuesday evening, January 19.
The sale provided an excellent opportunity for commercial sheep farmers to source top-quality replacement stock with pre-registered buyers and online bidders competing intensely for the 80 lots on offer.
Some 20 per cent of stock were purchased online, with 475 people watching proceedings from the comfort of their own home.
The 42 lots of outfits sold to £325. Single lamb outfits sold to a top of £215 twice, followed by £210, £200 twice. Double lamb outfits peaked at £325 with others selling at £315, £310 and £300.
Springing ewes sold to a top of £240 for the 35 lots on offer. Others sold to £230, £225, £240, £230, £215, £205, £190 and £180.
Due to the high demand for quality breeding sheep, it is anticipated another sale will be held in early February.
