Each year, Belcoo Pharmacy holds a coffee morning in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
The pharmacy is very proud to be associated with the local branch of the society and in recent times we became a Dementia Friendly Pharmacy.
For their last coffee morning they decided to revisit the bygone years of the local railway station which was situated in the village.
The pharmacy was delighted to partner with St Mary’s High School, Brollagh who carried out a project around the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway.
They also had old photographs and memorabilia including old record players and LPs from Big Tom and The Mainliners to name but one. The day itself was a great success and was attended by young and old, from near and far who revelled in a chance to have a catch up and enjoy hearing about the local history from Harold Johnson.
As a rural pharmacy, Belcoo Pharmacy is reliant on locals for their continued success and in that regards is very lucky to be situated where they are. The people on both sides of the Border and the wider community give them great support in all that they do during the year and it is very much appreciated.
We must thank all those who helped make the previous coffee mornings so special from those who baked to those who attended and made donations we really appreciate their continued help and support.
Unfortunately, like last year, they have had to cancel their coffee morning due to the coronavirus. This has meant that the pharmacy has had to look at different ways to promote and fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Society.
This year a talented local artist Patrick Timoney (www.macneangallery.com) kindly donated a beautiful piece of his work depicting a local landmark within the village known as 'The Cottage'.
Belcoo Pharmacy is using this unique piece in a raffle to raise much needed funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The painting is on display in the pharmacy and has attracted a lot of interest both locally and further afield. It is giving them a great opportunity to discuss and reminisce about 'The Good Auld Times'. Everyone is welcome to come to Belcoo Pharmacy to view the painting.
