One casualty was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast and a second brought by ambulance to the South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen following a two-vehicle collision on the Killadeas Road, Co. Fermanagh on March 8, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) has said in a statement released today (March 9).
NIAS along with the charity Air Ambulance service, three Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) appliances - two from Enniskillen Fire Station and one from Irvinestown Fire Station, and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) attended the incident following reports around 8am on Monday morning.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to rescue the two casualties from their vehicles.
An NIFRS spokeswoman said: "Firefighters were called to a two vehicle RTC on the Killadeas Road, Irvinestown.
"Firefighters used cutting equipment to rescue two casualties from their vehicles. The casualties were taken into the care of Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and taken to hospital."
A NIAS spokesman stated: "NIAS despatched two emergency crews to the scene. The charity Air Ambulance with HEMs crew on board was also tasked to the incident.
"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, while one other patient was taken to the South West Acute Hospital by ambulance."
The Killadeas Road between Trory Roundabout and Killadeas was closed in both directions, with diversions in place, as the emergency services dealt with the incident. The road reopened at around 4pm on Monday afternoon.
