What was the first book you remember reading?
I GREW up reading and absolutely devouring all of Roald Dahl’s books, and my collection of his books was one of my most prized possessions at the time.
I think I must have read each one at least three times!
Do you prefer fiction or non-fiction?
I would have to say that I prefer to read fiction books; however, recently, I have been getting a lot more into non-fiction and, in particular, memoirs have been really catching my eye.
What is your favourite book to film adaptation, and why?
I'M THE kind of person who always prefers the book to the film, but if I had to chose, I'd say 'The Sun Is Also A Star', which is written by Nicola Yoon.
It was so accurate to the book, and the characters were exactly how I imagined them; just so lovely.
The film adaption stars Yara Shahidi and Charles Melton, and was directed by Ry Russo-Young.
Has a book ever made you cry? What about it made you cry?
'WHEN Breath Becomes Air', by Paul Kahlanithi. Wow!
I knew what was going to happen from fairly early on in the story, but it was just heartbreaking.
Has a book ever made you laugh?
'HWFG', which is a collection of short stories where you'll find answers to the big questions in life, such as what happens when we die, why are moths terrifying, what are ghosts like to live with, and so on.
Also, 'This Is Gonna Hurt', by Adam Kay; a series of diaries kept by a junior doctor. Sorry, I know that's two, but I couldn't chose one!
If you were only allowed one book to take with you to a desert island, what would you take?
ANYTHING that’s written by Chidera Eggerue. I want to be her best friend, and reading her books have gotten me through so much.
What book would you give to a friend having a hard time?
'EVERYTHING I know About Love', by Dolly Alderton. It's a memoir by the award-winning journalist, who previously worked as The Sunday Times's Style section dating columnist.
Is there a character from a book who you relate to?
I'M not sure, but it's always nice to read a book which has a character that I see myself in.
Is there a book that everyone loves that you hate?
'WHERE The Crawdads Sing', the book that spent 32 non-consecutive weeks at the top of The New York Times's bestseller chart.
Is there a book that you’ve read more than once, and why?
'WHY I’m No Longer Talking To White People About Race'. I learnt so much from this book about racism in the UK, and it really opened my eyes to so much.
Which book do you think should be taught in schools?
I WANT to say the same book I’ve just mentioned immediately above, because it was just incredible, and so informative.
What are you reading right now?
'SABRINA and Corina', by Kali Farjado-Anstine, as well as 'Mayflies', by Andrew O’ Hagan.
What do you hope to read in the future?
LET me check my bookshelf – can I say, "Everything"?
