THE Continuity IRA (CIRA) has claimed responsibility for an alleged attack on Enniskillen Police Station on Monday, and the planting of a suspicious device close to the station.
In a message phoned in to The Impartial Reporter today (Friday) at around lunchtime, a person claiming to be from the dissident Republican group also said that the alleged device that was reported on the Fermanagh/Cavan border was a “military diversion”.
The message claimed that on Sunday, March 14, North Fermanagh CIRA – on the direction of Continuity Army Council – carried out an attack on Enniskillen Police Station.
It continued that volunteers fired high-velocity rounds from an improvised explosive device (IED) from the shore at Cornagrade across the river directly at the station.
“The hoax device placed in Newtownbutler/Clones Road was there as a military diversion, left so volunteers could attack Crown Forces in Enniskillen,” continued the message.
The message then said that CIRA are “not here to harm civilians”, and that the PSNI knew about the device for two days.
It concluded by saying the only people going to hurt civilians are Crown Forces in Enniskillen.
The statement ended with what is understood to be a recognised codeword.
