A 25-YEAR-OLD man has been convicted of a series of driving offences at Enniskillen Magistrates Court.
Juris Jemiljanovf, with an address of Formil Road, Kesh, faced charges of driving without due care and attention, no driving licence, and using a vehicle without insurance for an incident on October 1, 2020.
The court heard the defendant was driving a Volkswagen Passat on the Drumcullion Road, Kesh heading towards Ederney on October 1 which collided with the car of an injured party after a left turn and heading on a gentle uphill gradient.
The defendant sustained a cut to his scalp that required hospital treatment, while the other driver sustained back pain.
During a notebook interview, the defendant said he had been trying to turn the car when he saw the other car coming towards him, and the collision was unavoidable.
Checks by police showed Jemiljanovf had no driving licence or insurance.
Both drivers were tested for the presence of drink and drugs, which returned negative results.
The 25-year-old admitted he was the owner of the Passat and that he had no licence or insurance.
Jemiljanovf, who was self-represented, was asked by Deputy District Judge Sean O'Hare in court on Monday why he was driving, to which he responded through an interpretor that he was going to the shop.
Judge O'Hare said this was not a good enough explanation, and asked the defendant why he drove when he had no licence or insurance with a similar response being given, and that he needed to go to the shop.
Judge O'Hare disqualified Jemiljanovf for 12 months, and fined him £700 for the offences.
