A 50-YEAR-OLD man who was stopped by police driving a short distance from his home had no insurance policy in place, a court has heard.
Francis Laurence Durnian, of Castlederg Road, Ederney, was stopped by police driving a Land Rover Defender at Derrybeg Road, Ederney on September 27 last by police on mobile patrol, which was a short distance from his home.
When asked to produce documents, Durnian was unable to do so, and said he would have to search his house for them. It then transpired there was no insurance on the vehicle.
Durnian's solicitor, Tommy Owens, told Enniskillen Magistrates Court that the 50-year-old thought there was insurance in place until April, 2021; however, a missed payment due to a banking problem resulted in the policy being cancelled, unbeknownst to the defendant.
Deputy District Judge Sean O'Hare issued six penalty points, which led to a six-month disqualification, and a £350 fine.
