THE children of Jones Memorial School have been getting to grips with new technology following a fundraiser by Friends of Jones Memorial Primary School to install a full suite of new interactive whiteboards.
The Friends of Jones Memorial Primary School actively worked to raise £26,000 for the school through a host of fundraising events, which included a magical Winter wonderland, sponsored bounces, and table quizzes.
The determined group of parents and teachers were unperturbed by the current Covid-19 situation, and have shown their creative side by continuing their fundraising efforts through virtual sales, bubble discos and much more.
The motivation behind their efforts was the drive to replace every interactive whiteboard in the school with a state-of-the-art new touchscreen system – a Promethean ActivPanel 75” whiteboard, with touch screen display – something they are delighted to have achieved.
School Principal, Sandra Isherwood, said: “The school welcomes the installation of 10 new Promethean ActivPanels over the St. Patrick’s break, and now look forward to welcoming all pupils back to school to unleash the full potential they have to offer.
“The benefits of these ActivPanels in the classroom are many that any learning institution can't afford to ignore.
"Apart from bringing convenience and flexibility in education, the use of such touchscreens increases teacher-student engagement and boosts performance in the long run.
"Adopting this technology can be great for any school or learning institution, because it streamlines areas that were a challenge before. These Promethean ActivPanels will not only stimulate learning, but will also save on learning materials and inspire performance.”
Year Three teacher Miss Dunne was delighted with the installation of the new technology.
She said: “Promethean ActivPanels allow children to interact with the learning material; pupils can demonstrate to their fellow classmates how they have achieved their working-out methods.
"Their understanding of the subject is seen through touching, drawing, or writing on the board.”
