SINN Féin representatives have met with the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS) to discuss the closure of St. Mary’s High School, Brollagh.

Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA, Jemma Dolan and MP Michelle Gildernew met with the CCMS on Friday, March 26 to ask them to reconsider their position on the closure of the West Fermanagh school.

“We discussed a number of issues around their plans to close Brollagh, signed off by the Minister of Education, and I once again requested that they rethink their decision,” said Miss Dolan after the meeting.

‘Unwilling’

“Unfortunately, the CCMS are unwilling to do so. The Education Minister, who I have also met with, is also unwilling to rethink his decision.

“The CCMS did give us reassurances that in any transition from Brollagh to another school, both the staff and the students will be accommodated.

“But CCMS stated when it comes to the decision to close the school, the decision has been made, and it is final, so [there will be] no accommodating staff or students, in that respect.

“We will continue to fight, however, as we always have done, for post-primary education in our rural areas,” she added.
