Man arrested ‘on the run’
JOHN Murray, who was arrested in Enniskillen last week by Crown forces, belongs to Ballyshannon and has been ‘on the run’ for some time.
He had previously been imprisoned in Londonderry and Mountjoy prisons, and was released from the latter on ‘hunger strike’.
Public protest voices anger at ‘excessive’ telephone charges
A PUBLIC meeting of telephone users in the town of Enniskillen was held on Friday, when a resolution was unanimously adopted protesting against the recent excessive advances to the already much too high telephone charges.
“We consider there is something radically amiss in an administration which demands such exorbitant rents, and consider that were more business methods adopted and more regard paid to the economy, the result would be advantageous to the Government and country alike.
“The proposed charges, we consider to be a public scandal, and, further, in our opinion, an unnecessary drag on industry already so heavily penalised.”
The resolution was directed to be sent to the Postmaster-General, members of Parliament, and various public bodies throughout Ireland.
Already a number of telephone installations have been given up, and with the exception of the County Hospital, the doctors, and a few large business establishments, all those having telephones have served three month’s notice on the Postmaster-General, to have the instruments removed.

The affair was not like a big bazaar, yet more than £500 has been realised.
Amongst the list of stallholders was unavoidably omitted the name of Miss Weaver, an associate of the G.F.S..
