THE new Enniskillen thoroughpass opened on Sunday – and has been judged a success by many motorists.
Rush-hour traffic in the usually hectic east end of the town has been flowing much quicker, with drives making good use of the new ‘Inis Ceithlenn’ bridge.
For many, the first time they used the new thoroughpass the road markings were quite perplexing, especially the three-lane system entering the roundabout at Belmore Street.
A spokesman for the Department of Environment said that the initial reaction to the thoroughpass was “very favourable” although it was early days yet.
Unfortunately, not everyone thought the thoroughpass as pleasant to the eye. On the first day it was open, empty beer cans and bottles were strewn along the side of the new road.
