A 19-YEAR-OLD woman has been disqualified from driving for two weeks after allowing her friend to drive her car.
Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday that at 2:35pm on April 2, police observed a Volkswagon Golf travelling on the Cornagrade Road with a male driver and the defendant, Tanya Williamson, of Chanterhill Park, Enniskillen, in the back seat.
The defendant claimed to police that she had been drinking and was unable to drive her car.
When questioned by the police, Williamson admitted she knew that permitting driving with no insurance was an offence. Defence solicitor Michael Fahy claimed that the defendant “believed that this was covered in her insurance”.
Mr. Fahy told the court that Williamson had “cherished her licence up until this point” and advised the court that Williamson needed her licence to drive to and from work. He recommended to the court that Williamson only be served with a short disqualification period.
District Judge Steven Keown welcomed Williamson’s plea at the first opportunity and sentenced her to two weeks of disqualification and handed her a £300 fine.
