COUNTRY music fans came out in droves to enjoy the first socially distanced live music event to be hosted at Castle Irvine, Necarne Estate.
The Castle Country Drive-Inn with Andy Crawford and Chrissy Mac saw 130 vehicles fill the walled gardens of the estate on Saturday night (May 8) as stars of the local Country music scene took to the open air stage.
In keeping with coronavirus regulations, those in attendance were able to enjoy the live performances safely from the comfort of their own vehicles.
The show started at 8pm with Country singer Patricia Maguire. Accompanied by her band, she brought an upbeat set of tunes, setting a lively tone for the night.
Patricia was followed by Stefan Walker, Gerry Guthrie, and Chrissy Mac headlined the show, ending the night on a high with his energetic performance.
Compere for the show, Andy Crawford, commented on the success of the event, saying: “The artists, the bands, everything was fantastic. Everybody enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to the next one.
“The venue was unbelievable. To be given the chance of using the grounds of Necarne Estate at Castle Irvine has been fantastic. I look forward to doing more events of this kind at this fantastic venue.”
Not giving too much away at this stage, Andy did note that another event of this kind is “in progress for July”.
Due to its drive-in format, the show was suitable for all weathers but Andy was delighted that it was a dry evening for the event. “The weather was on our side, that morning it looked like it wasn’t going to be but the weather turned on our side. It was a lovely evening.”
Food was also available at the event, with catering provided by Mahon’s Hotel.
“Joe Mahon was there doing burgers and he got up and sang a song or two,” said Andy, noting that Joe was invited to the stage to sing his popular rendition of, ‘How Much Is That Doggie In The Window’.
The show was sponsored by Euro Auctions, who own the estate; CB Fuels; Enniskillen Tyre Centre and Home to Home cleaning.
“This is the start of many [shows], all being well,” Andy told this newspaper.
