A police patrol in Newtownbutler has led to the discovery of gummy cannabis sweets.
"Fermanagh and Omagh District Support Team were out patrolling Newtownbutler this afternoon following community concerns about drugs in the area. It didn’t take long for something to catch our attention," a post on PSNI Fermanagh & Omagh explained.
"A suspect was detained and searched under Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act and as a result gummy cannabis sweets were located. Our suspect has since been arrested and charged to court following an interview.
"It’s fair to say we’ve come across a lot of drugs during our time but this new trend of lacing sweets with illegal substances is terrifying. Sweets are clearly made to target children. It’s impossible to tell what other ingredients are used to produce these sweets which can make them so lethal."
A 62 year old man has been charged with possession of a class B drug. The man is due to appear at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday, June 7. As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the PPS.
