Business owners have been warned by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to be vigilant follow-ing a series of bogus phone calls.
A Council spokesman said: "The Council has been made aware of a bogus caller who is contacting organisations and premises, claiming to be from our Environmental Health service, with the bogus caller advising [people] they are in breach of Covid regulations and could be fined £2,000.
"The Council wishes to advise these calls are not genuine. Never give out personal information such as bank details, and end the communication immediately.
"If anyone has recently been approached in a similar manner they should report it immediately to the PSNI on the non-emergency telephone number, 101.”
He continued: “Any contact the Council makes with the public in relation to Council services will be through personal contact by authorised staff, who will have Council-issued identification.
"If anyone is not fully satisfied that the ID is genuine, or requires reassurance regarding the au-thenticity of a caller, they should make immediate contact with the Council at 0300 303 1777 to veri-fy the caller’s details.
"If you think you have been a victim of a scam, you can report it to the PSNI on the non-emergency police service number, 101.”
