ECONOMY Minister Sir Reg Empey has endorsed the work of the county’s economic taskforce and pledged £25,000 towards its implementation plan for the development of enterprise in the county.
Sir. Reg met with members of the Fermanagh District Council’s Economic Taskforce last Friday where the difficulties facing Fermanagh’s economy were spelled out.
The loss of more that 1,000 jobs mainly in the textiles and food processing industries, the high dependence on agriculture and low level of public sector employment were just some of the significant difficulties discussed.
But before the Minister even got through the front door of the town hall, he was met with a dozen members of the Transport and General Workers’ Union, as well as former employees of Unipork and Coat Viyella.
