A TEENAGER has appeared in court in relation to an incident in Fintona last month during which it is alleged a police officer was knocked unconscious, and a number of others were assaulted.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified due to his age, is charged with causing actual bodily harm to the officer as well as three further counts of assaulting police.
He is also accused of resisting arrest and using disorderly behaviour in the King Street area of Fintona.
All matters are alleged to have occurred on April 30 and relate to an investigation in underage drinking and breaches of coronavirus restrictions.
A police officer told Omagh Youth Court she believed she could connect the accused to the charges.
Referring to the more serious assault charge, a defence solicitor said: "We were told in the police station, during the interview, the officer wasn't aware if he was knocked unconscious.
"But the police issued a press release to the media in respect of this child and the officer being knocked unconscious.
"I want that noted on the record. It will become apparent in due course."
District Judge Mark McGarrity remanded the youth on continuing bail and ordered him to appear again next month.
At the time, police said around 150 people were in the premises, and a £1,000 fine was issued in respect of Covid-19 breaches.
