THIS week’s walk of the week takes us to Bellanaleck’s Loughshore Walk. This walking trail not only leads you through woodland and grassland, but also takes you by the shores of the River Erne, showcasing the biodiversity of this area of Fermanagh.
With the following information provided courtesy of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, you can stay local, and yet still find plenty of natural gems to walk, see and explore that are practically on your doorstep, no matter where you live in the county.
Overview:
THE natural habitats of Bellanaleck are home to a rich array of native biodiversity which can be viewed along this walk; majestic oak trees, species-rich grassland and open water, to name but a few.
During the summer, an impressive explosion of common-spotted orchids can be viewed along the road verge.
This walk is also close to Bellanaleck ASSI, noted for its geological importance.
THE information on this walking route has been provided by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and also features on a series of walking cards which have been developed to promote walking opportunities, trails and routes within the Council district.
