POPULAR Country music star Nathan Carter has confirmed that police attended his home last Friday night (May 28) after his family, visiting from Liverpool, had organised a barbecue for his 31st birthday which they believed was "within the current Covid-19 restrictions".

Carter’s confirmation follows a report from the PSNI that at least 50 people were present at a house party in Lisbellaw – now known to be Carter’s home - in which almost £4,000-worth of fines were issued.

In a statement, Nathan said: "I wish to confirm the attendance of the PSNI at my residence on Friday, May 28.

"My family visiting from Liverpool had organised a barbecue for my birthday.

"They believed that this gathering was within the current Covid-19 restrictions in the North; however, it transpires that it was not."

Nathan went on to explain that the "organiser has already paid the fine that was issued".

"Given the restrictions, I realise how irresponsible these actions were, and I fully apologise," he said.

A PSNI spokesperson said police had received a report in relation to a house party and a suspected breach of The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2021 at an address in Lisbellaw - Carter’s home - at 10.30pm on Friday night.

"Officers attended the address, where at least 50 people were present.

"Enforcement action was taken, including [issuing] 14 Cov 7 £200 fines and one Cov 9 £1,000 fine.

“A Cov 2 Prohibition Notice was also issued," the police spokesperson added.

Police say that they expect further enforcement action to be taken.

While there has been a relaxation of restrictions in terms of mixing, there are still a limited number of people allowed to mix in a private setting.

Only six people – not including children – from two households are allowed to meet inside, while up to 15 people – including children – are allowed to meet outdoors.
