THIS is a small glimpse of the sports people and teams that have made the headlines in The Impartial Reporter on this week down through the years.
In the Fermanagh Senior Football Championship in 1996, there was a tight encounter between Enniskillen and Derrygonnelly that finished in a 0-07 to 0-07 draw. The Gaels looked as if they would take the win when Tom Brewster slotted over, but Kevin McGrath rattled over a late equaliser to send the tie to a replay.
At the West of Ulster Junior Tennis Championships at Enniskillen, there was victory for Susannah Hughes Jordan in the U-18 Girls Singles, while Sarah Cousins claimed the U-12 Girls’s Singles title.
In 2016, there was victory for Jon Armstrong in the second round of the DMack Fiesta Trophy – which introduces the best up and coming young drivers to the challenges of a World championship event – at Rally Poland. The win left him second in the standings.
In golf, Brian Doran produced a stunning round to easily claim the Killyhevlin Open at Enniskillen Golf Club.
There were more than 100 competitors, including 30 visitors, but Brian blew them all away to record a three-shot victory.
The Coffey Cup was won by Enniskillen Strollers in 1986, after they defeated Fivemiletown 3-2 in the final.
In rowing, Portora Junior 8s won the Craig Cup, while five Collegiate students represented Ulster in the Inter-Provincial U-18 Sevens in 2016.
