An anonymous report of a drunk male driving in Enniskillen earlier this year led police to discover the offender in the Irvinestown Road area.
Paul Keenan (63), from Derrin Road, Enniskillen, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving with excess alcohol on the evening of February 19.
He was arrested, and whilst in custody provided an evidential breath specimen which returned a reading of 61mcg of alcohol – 26mcg over the legal limit.
A defending lawyer told Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday her client had gone for a drink after work, during which he consumed two pints of beer.
Describing Keenan as: “A community man who worked through the pandemic”, the defence pointed out there was nothing irregular in the manner of his driving, and police detection occurred on the back of a report from a member of the public.
Deputy District Judge Greg McCourt imposed a fine of £250 and disqualified Keenan from driving for 12 months, to be reduced by three months on completion of the drink-driver course.
