A FERMANAGH butcher is one of seven people across Northern Ireland to win Tayto's 'Big Cheese' award for his support for others during the pandemic.
Stephen Millar, from Irvinestown, was nominated by his wife, Clare, for his contribution to the local community throughout the Covid-19 period.
The Big Cheese Awards were developed by Tayto to help shout about the champions of Northern Ireland and give them the recognition they deserve for being a shining star and supporting so many others throughout a difficult year.
The awards were designed to show appreciation for local superheroes in the community, who have unselfishly supported others.
The crisp company says the past 15 months have been challenging for everyone, and during this time some people have stepped up to the mark and for their family, friends and neighbours and this should be celebrated.
When nominating Stephen, Clare said: “Stephen has gone above and beyond for our local community in Fermanagh since the pandemic began. He quickly implemented a delivery service for his butcher shop and worked night and day to ensure no one went without food.
“During the height of the pandemic, Stephen – an asthma sufferer – was rarely home due to working in the shop, delivering food parcels and supporting the local community.
"To protect his staff and customers, Stephen installed increased health and safety measures in store very early on.
"He also continued to give back by donating around £600 to local dementia charities, as well as vouchers and meat boxes for charity auctions,” added Clare.
