A GIANT heart-shaped selfie frame has been erected – ever so appropriately in the heart of Enniskillen – as a new initiative from Enniskillen BID in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to encourage locals and tourists alike to show their love for the island town by taking and sharing photos.
The heart selfie frame was erected on Monday (July 26), and is located in the Broadmeadow, with the iconic Enniskillen Castle as the backdrop, with an informational plaque to explain the piece and how to use it to be installed shortly.
A Ccouncil spokesman said: "Fermanagh and Omagh District Council works in partnership with others to make the district a high-quality place to live, work and visit.
"The Heart sculpture is a partnership project between the Council and Enniskillen BID to enhance Enniskillen by providing original features."
Noelle McAloon, of Enniskillen BID, praised the addition of the new colourful attraction, saying: "If you're walking along the Broadmeadow as a tourist, it's a nice thing to do [to take a selfie there], and also then with Instagram and the world of Instagram, and the world of hashtags, we will be asking people to put it on their socials [media profiles].
"It's just to get Enniskillen and the island town as far-reaching as possible."
Noting how the heart selfie frame is not completely finished, as yet, Noelle added: "There will be graphics on it and it will have a plaque to explain to people that it's not just a heart sitting in the middle of the Broadmeadow – that it's a 'selfie board' and if you stand at the right angle you'll get the castle in it."
This is the second piece which has been completed by the Council in partnership with Enniskillen BID.
Recently, a replica of a Fermanagh cattle cot was installed as an entrance feature to Enniskillen at the Ardhowen.
The heart and cattle cot were funded by Enniskillen BID and were designed, constructed and erected by craftsmen from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council based at the Killyvilly Depot.
