A MAN has been banned from driving after he was stopped by police on his way home from a pub.
Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday how John Humphrey Alexander Boyd (60), with an address of Coollane Road, Maguiresbridge, was stopped by police on June 26 shortly before 8.30pm, driving a Citreon Xsara close to his home.
When a police officer spoke to the defendant, they detected a smell of alcohol on his breath, and he was asked to take a preliminary breath test, which he failed.
Boyd was taken to Omagh Police Station where he gave an evidential reading of 55mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
Gary Black, representing Boyd, told the court the defendant had been at a local licensed premise where he consumed a few pints across an hour before driving off to his home, which was about one mile away.
Mr. Black said there was no issue with Boyd's driving, and it was an anonymous report to police which alerted them to Boyd, and they were waiting close to his home address.
He added that the loss of a driving licence will have a significant impact on Boyd and his family.
District Judge Steven Keown fined Boyd £250 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months, which will be reduced upon the completion of a drink driving course.
