MANAGEMENT at the Killyhevlin Hotel in Enniskillen took “all of the relevant precautions” to prevent putting staff and customers at risk following a chemical leak in the swimming pool area of the hotel on Monday night (August 2).
Following a call at 8.48pm on Monday night, three Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) appliances – two from Enniskillen Fire Station, and one from Irvinestown Fire Station – attended the incident at the hotel on the Dublin Road, Enniskillen.
A NIFRS spokeswoman said: “Firefighters were called to reports of a chemical leak at a hotel.
“The leak was isolated by firefighters, and the affected area was checked by firefighters using a gas monitor and wearing breathing apparatus, and readings were normal.
“Two casualties were assessed at the scene by Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. The incident was dealt with by 11.24pm.”
Speaking to The Impartial Reporter following the incident, David Morrison, General Manager of the Killyhevlin Hotel, said: “It was an accidental spillage and because of the risk of dangerous fumes, we had to take all of the relevant precautions, because we didn’t want to put our staff or our customers at risk.”
He explained that “for safety”, people were removed from their bedrooms to the public lounge area while the NIFRS dealt with the incident.
“About an hour and a half later they were allowed back into their bedrooms,” Mr. Morrison told this newspaper. “The pool is back up running this morning [Wednesday],” he added.
