While attending reports of significant flooding in the county, firefighters also had to come to the aid of a man believed to be having a heart attack on Thursday night.
At around 10.40pm yesterday, August 5, two fire appliances – one each from Belleek and Enniskillen fire stations – along with firefighters from Ballyshannon Fire Station attended reports of flooding on the Lough Shore Road, Belleek, which covered two main roads.
A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson said a male had become trapped in his car but was out of the vehicle when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters used a light, portable pump and 10 lengths of hose to clear the flooding.
"While firefighters were clearing the floodwater, they were approached by a member of the public who informed them that a 65-year-old man had had a heart attack nearby.
"Two firefighters attended the casualty. They provided oxygen therapy and used a defibrillator until an ambulance arrived.
“He was then taken to hospital and the firefighters returned to continue clearing the floodwater," added the NIFRS spokesperson.
The road was cleared and left safe, and the incident was dealt with by 4.14am this morning (Thursday, August 6).
