Keith Farmer’s British Superstock season looks to be over after his team, Morello-IMR, pulled out of the most recent round at Donnington Park and admitted they are not in a position to provide a bike for the remaining races of the 2021 campaign.
In a fraught winter of negotiations, Farmer saw two agreed deals collapse before the opening round. He was able to resurrect his season with a late agreement to ride a bike for Morello-IMR, but he knows it is unlikely that he will get a reprieve this time around.
“The team is completely dissolved now,” he conceded. “There are a few things in the pipeline, but at this present moment it is not looking likely that anything will come together, unless I win the lottery or find a sponsor to pay for everything!
“A lot of people expect you to bring money with you now, and I just don’t have that behind me to bring forward, and that is the situation we are in.
“We were starting to make real good headway with it, and that is why it is so frustrating. It is a shame after the amount of money that was spent to get everything going, but that is the way racing is.”
At the latest round at Donnington, Lee Johnston again threatened the top spot in the British Supersport race but came away still searching for his first race win of the season.
After qualifying in pole position, the Maguiresbridge rider took sixth place in the sprint race. In Sunday’s feature race it seemed as though his long wait for the top step of the podium may be coming to an end when he took the lead early in the race, but after a frantic battle among the top three Lee was forced to retire with five laps remaining.
