IN a surprise move, Enniskillen High Street’s Post Office is to close today (Tuesday) at 5.30pm, earlier than its previously announced and expected closure date of this Friday, August 27.
A Post Office spokesperson confirmed the closure of the branch to this newspaper earlier this afternoon.
In a statement, the spokesperson said: “We regret that today [August 24] Enniskillen Post Office closes [permanently] at 5.30pm.
“We know how much a local community relies on post office services and we are actively seeking a temporary solution for the branch.
"In the meantime, customers are advised to use Cornagrade Road Post Office, which is open Monday to Friday between 8am and 7pm, or Chanterhill Post Office, open Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm, and on Saturdays between 9am and 1pm.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused to customers who have usually visited the Enniskillen branch.”
The Costcutters shop in which the closing post office branch is located will still remain open until this Friday, August 27.
It is understood that political representatives and members from Enniskillen BID met with Post Office officials yesterday in Enniskillen regarding the closure of the High Street’s post office branch.
