A COUNTY Cavan man has been given a fine and penalty points for a defective tyre and having no driving licence.
Patrick Curry (32), of Cronera, Corlough, was stopped on the Swanlinbar Road, Florencecourt on March 8, 2020.
At Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday, it was heard that at 5.10pm on the day in question, police were on patrol in the area when they observed a Ford Transit approaching them which was pulling a trailer with a large load.
The officers turned and caught up with the van and signalled it to pull over. Officers spoke to the defendant and while inspecting the trailer they noticed a defective nearside tyre which was worn below the legal limit.
A Fixed Penalty Notice was issued for the offence and Curry was ordered to produce his licence at a police station; however, checks showed that the licence was not produced, and that the fine was also not paid.
Debbie Clarke, representing Curry, told the court that the defendant accepted his Republic of Ireland licence did not cover the trailer, and also explained that he was unfamiliar with the process for producing his licence.
She said he tried to pay the fine, but it was returned as he had failed to produce his licence.
Curry was fined £110 and issued with three penalty points by Deputy District Judge Greg McCourt.
