100 DEATHS have been recorded in the Fermanagh and Omagh District by The Department of Health since the Coronavirus pandemic began in March, 2020, with six of these deaths occurring in the past week alone.
This stark figure comes as 108 new cases of the virus have been recorded in the district by the Department of Health in the past 24 hours, and follows a week where Fermanagh and Omagh recorded the highest rate of Covid infection in the UK.
The district currently has the highest rate of infection per 100,00 people in Northern Ireland. The rate per 100,000 people is currently 865.4 in the district, according to Wednesday’s update from the Department of Health.
It means that in the past seven days in the district, there have been 1,016 positive cases of the virus. Out of those, 332 were in people aged 19 and under; 291 were between the ages of 20 and 39; 239 were between 40 and 59; 131 were between 60 and 79, and 22 cases were in people aged 80 and over.
In the South West Acute Hospital (SWAH), there currently 37 Covid-19 patients in the hospital, with two patients currently in ICU. Across Northern Ireland, there are 418 Covid patients, with 46 in ICU, with 37 ventilated.
Breaking down positive cases by postal district in Fermanagh, between August 16-22, there were 224 positive cases in the BT74 district; 284 in BT92; 122 in BT93, and 161 in BT94. The BT92 area currently has the highest Covid-19 infection rate in Northern Ireland, with a rate of 1,638.8 per 100,000 people.
Wednesday’s update showed the SWAH was operating above its bed capacity, at 110.94 per cent. Across Northern Ireland, the total number of Covid-19 cases is 202,132 people, with 1,472 positive tests in the past day.
As of September 1, there were 131 confirmed active outbreaks of Covid-19 in care homes – an increase of three, compared to the previous seven days. Some 22 of those were in care homes in the Western Trust region.
The daily update on vaccinations showed 1,268,136 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine in Northern Ireland, with 87.19 per cent of people aged 18 and over now fully vaccinated.
