The Orange Institution in County Fermanagh held their annual Murdered Brethren service and parade in memory of the 31 members of the Institution who lost their lives during The Troubles
Those who were murdered in Fermanagh are part of a wider 338 Orangemen and one Orange woman who died during the Troubles. This year’s commemorations were significant as it marked 50 years since the murder of UDR Private Frank Veitch on September 3, 1971.
The service began at 2.30pm and was hosted in yard of the former T.P Topping site. The service usually takes place in St Macartin's Cathedral in Enniskillen but due to coronavirus restrictions, the Orange Institution decided to host the service outdoors.
The service was led by by Bro. Rev Charles Eames and the County Fermanagh Grand Chaplain, Wors. Bro. Rev. Rodney Beacom. The guest speaker was the Wors. Bro. Rev Canon Alan Irwin, incumbent incumbent minister in Colaghty Parish Church, Lack.
Music was provided at the service by Tempo Silver Band, the piper for the memorial service was Darren Robinson and the bugler was Andrew Gordon.
The Act of Remembrance took place during the service and a wreath was laid at the Cenotaph when the circular parade took place in Enniskillen. Three bands took part in the parade; Tempo Silver Band, Ballindarragh Accordion Band and Inver Flute Band.
Others who attended the service included Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ireland, Right Worshipful Bro. Harold Henning, Assistant Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ireland, Right Worshipful Bro. Mark Smith and a number of County Officers from neighbouring Counties.
