In June of this year seven Enniskillen RFC girls, had to the opportunity to attend Ulster Rugby U18 selection sessions at Fivemiletown College and a squad selection day at Armagh Rugby Club. All seven made it to the final 30 training squad and this is where the dedication and hard work really started.
Over the course of 10 weeks, they attended on pitch training and gyms sessions three times a week with Ulster Coaching and Conditioning staff at Newforge Sports Complex in Belfast, covering over 5000 miles on the road.
The goal from the start was to build a squad for the Age Grade Inter Pro matches in September and all seven girls were selected for the starting 23 match day squad.
After a Covid interrupted schedule meaning a draw being awarded for the opening match against Munster, the girls and their supporters made the trip to St Mary RFC in Dublin on the 4th of September for their match against a quality Leinster outfit.
Whilst eventual Inter Pro Champions, Leinster, came away with the spoils in a hard-fought match, the girls took away important lessons to build on their next match against a Connacht side with an extra match under their belt at Barnhall RFC in Dublin.
The Skins girls shone in a hard-fought contest and wrapped up with a 12-5 victory and ending the competition in second place ahead of Munster and Connacht.
The seven girls and Enniskillen will have benefited from their experience over the last few months and can be proud of having represented Ulster Rugby and Enniskillen RFC at this high level.
The seven are; Cora Balfour, Sophie Barrett, Moya Hill, Aoife Keaney, Farrah Cartin McCloskey, Sophie Meeke and Lucy Thompson.
