A man stopped by police twice in the space of five days has been handed penalty points and fines for traffic offences.
On September 4, 2019, John Ward (30), of Killybrack Close, Omagh was stopped by police on mobile patrol on the Drumwhinny Road, Kesh.
Officers had pulled him over to speak to him about the tinting on the car window but they observed that one of the tyres was extremely smooth with little thread left on it. He was ordered to produce his licence however, on September 16, checks showed that Ward had not produced his licence within the timeframe.
On September 9 at around 2.50pm. police on duty in Kesh stopped a green Vauxhall Astra in Erne Park which was being driven by Ward.
Checks showed there was no insurance on the vehicle.
However, Ward said he was insured and was advised to produce the required documents.
Patrick Roche, representing Ward, said his client had rectified the defective tyre shortly after he was stopped and the reason he had forgot to produce his licence was he was moving from Kesh to Sligo and it had slipped his mind.
In relation to the no insurance charge, Ward was due to contest the matter as he believed he was insured.
Mr. Roche pointed out there were only five days between the two incidents and he had been insured on September 4. However, the insurance had been cancelled between the dates over a failure to pay the premium.
For the defective tyre, Ward was handed three penalty points and a £100 fine. For failing to produce a licence he received a £150 fine and for having no insurance, Ward had six penalty points imposed and a £400 fine.
