On the weekend of August 13 to 15, the McPhillips family from Newtownbutler hosted a memorial event in memory of a much-loved son and brother, Michael, or Mickey as he was better known, who died by suicide in November 2020.
The family wished to highlight the importance of good mental health, and through a photographic exhibition, a series of talks, a concert and a walk, they certainly did that for all who attended in person or online.
Alongside all of the events, participants were invited to make a donation towards the weekend.
Local businesses and organisations, a GoFundMe page and a raffle, all contributed to the raising of a total of £10,000.
This money was distributed amongst three beneficiaries, namely the Oak Healthy Living Centre in Lisnaskea, the Aisling Centre in Enniskillen and the RNLI.
The family would like to thank all who were involved in the weekend, all who contributed financially and all who assisted the family in organising the events, in particular the local First Fermanagh GAA Club, the Matt Fitzpatrick Society and the local Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann group.
It is hoped that the event will become an annual event, with organisation underway.
