Local politicians have been encouraging constituents to apply for the £100 High Street Scheme vouchers.

Welcoming the initiative, Fermanagh South Tyrone DUP MLA Arlene Foster said: "The High Street Scheme is a wonderful initiative to ensure support is given to our local businesses. When Minister Lyons was visiting Enniskillen last week, we were able to visit some local businesses to promote the scheme and encourage the public to shop local.

"As we have seen from places like Jersey, a similar scheme was a huge success. On Tuesday of this week there was already over 400,500 applications completed. This just indicates how excited people are about the scheme and want to spend local.

"Please be patient when applying. Everyone has until the October 25 to apply for a card, which must be spent by November 30. I hope everyone will think about spending it in our local businesses.”

Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Erroll Thompson said: “The Council warmly welcomes this new spend local scheme which will bring valuable support and footfall to businesses across Fermanagh and Omagh,” said Councillor Thompson.

“Businesses across the district have faced significant challenges over the past 18 months and this scheme provides residents with the opportunity to support businesses within the district and provide a welcome boost to our local economy," he continued.

"Fermanagh and Omagh has an exceptional retail, hospitality, services and visitor offering and I urge residents aged 18 and over to apply for their £100 voucher card before the closing date of 25 October 2021 to spend local, support local,” Councillor Thompson added.

Registration to apply for the Department for the Economy’s Spend Local voucher remains open until 25 October 2021. For further information and to apply online for the Spend Local voucher please visit www.nidirect.gov.uk
