The Provisional IRA bombers returned to Fermanagh on Monday - this time property appeared to be the target in a day of chaos across the county.
Two bombs went off - one at Lady Craigavon bridge between Lisnaskea and Derrylin, the second at Lisnaskea Boat Club. Extensive damage was caused to both the bridge and the boat club.
There were also alerts at Carry Bridge Hotel and the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen the same days - both turned out to be hoaxes.
A group of four anglers were parking their car just yards from the Lady Craigavon Bridge when the device exploded, showering their Toyota Corolla with debris. The driver, 38-year-old Paul Worthington, suffered a double fracture of his right arm and a passenger was treated for shock.
But Mr. Worthington has said that, although shocked by the incident, he will return to fish on Lough Erne next year. Two hours later another went off at the Derryadd Quad home of Lisnaskea Boat Club nearby.
No-one was injured but the premises were extensively damaged, probably having to be totally rebuilt. It’s the second time in two years the boat club has been the target, in July 1989 the club was completely destroyed in an IRA incendiary attack.
It reopened in July last year. In a telephone warning the Provos had claimed they had also planted two devices at the Killyhevlin and Carrybridge Hotels, but both turned out to be hoaxes.
