St. Angelo Airport has been awarded a certificate for its exceptional partnership with NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) and Northern Ireland Organ Donation Services Team.

The Northern Ireland Organ Donation Services Team wished to thank the Enniskillen airport for the support it provides to the service.

The team at St. Angelo Airport go above and beyond by providing a 24-hour service, 365 days a year, for all local transplant and time-critical medical transfers.

Without this invaluable support, life-saving transplants could incur lengthy delays if they had to travel by road to an alternative airport.

Noelle Melarkey, Specialist Nurse for Organ Donation for the Western Trust, based at the South West Acute Hospital, said: “This certificate acknowledges the role St. Angelo Airport plays in facilitating the safe and swift service for our donors, their families and the recipients.

“Thank you for everything you do – you play a vital role and we are extremely grateful.”

Alan Cathcart, St. Angelo Airport owner, also wished to acknowledge the work of part-time female ground staff member Ciara McHugh, who is missing from the photo.

Alan said: “Ciara is a second year student at Queens University, Belfast, and completes all tasks her male colleagues do, including air traffic controller, firefighter, aircraft refueller and grass cutting, etc.”
