THE theft of a £2.99 drink from an Enniskillen shop was described an “expensive mistake” by the sitting judge at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday.
Shania Devenney (22), with an address of Hillview Road, Enniskillen, appeared in court to face the single charge of theft from Dolan’s Costcutter, High Street, Enniskillen on April 1.
The court heard that police received a report from the shop of a female known to them who had stolen from the shop, taking a can of Dragon Soup.
Devenney was cautioned by police for theft, and made full admissions.
Michelle McVeigh, representing Devenney, told the court there was nothing of a similar nature on her client’s criminal record.
She said that on the day in question, Devenney had consumed a “considerable amount of alcohol” and had a limited recollection of events, but at the police station made full admissions.
Mrs. McVeigh added Devenney was not in a good place at the time, but was working through that.
Describing the theft as an “expensive drink”, District Judge Steven Keown fined Devenney £100, and ordered her to pay £2.99 in restitution.
